The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was sentenced of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and handed more than 27 years in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the elderly politician was a safety action after fresh information were revealed.

This involved trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, the judge said data from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the chaos caused by the gathering called by his son.

His child, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

His son wrote on social media on last Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I invite you to fight with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could "pray for his well-being and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."

Foreign Shelter Risks

Part of Justice Moraes's determination was the potential of his "relocation to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the probes revealed a record of organizing to ask for protection through a embassy office", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the US embassy in the federal district, Brasilia, is positioned around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

International Reactions

The former president's legal troubles have drawn the ire of fellow right-wing populist United States President President Trump, leading him to impose a fifty percent tax on imports of Brazilian goods.

He is being kept in a federal law enforcement building in the capital and will have a detention review on Sunday.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on Friday that the former president's lawyers asked the Top Court to allow him to fulfill his full incarceration period under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also asked that Bolsonaro be permitted to exit his dwelling for healthcare, saying he demanded regular treatment for lung conditions and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was convicted of leading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the national vote to his ideological adversary, Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a plan which included plans to assassinate the current president and his running partner, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it didn't receive the endorsement of the army and air force commanders. His successor was took office without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, many his backers invaded and destroyed government buildings in the federal district, Brazil's capital.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The judges found that the demonstrators had been provoked by him whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, bring back stability and reinstate his authority.

At the moment, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the over 27-year sentence unreasonably severe".

He was also barred from campaigning for office until twenty-sixty - eight years later after the end of his sentence.

The former president called the legal proceedings a targeted investigation" and said it was intended to stop him running in the next presidential race.
